Prayas began its fight for human dignity on 17 July 1996 as the first vocational institute for the mentally and physically challenged. Prayas works for the education, rehabilitation and empowerment of the mentally and physically challenged (differently-able) and socially disadvantaged children. It is a non-profit, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
The family started with 5 special children and a staff of 2. Today Prayas directly serves over 2600 children and has reached over 40,000 children indirectly (special as well as normal children from Below Poverty Line families) through its four centers (Amagarh, Raja Park and Sanganer being Inclusive Schools while Jhalana being a Special Needs School), intervention in 12 government-run primary schools to replicate its Inclusive Education Model, rehabilitation department and health and disability camps. It indirectly serves over 20,000 families in the community through different activities: health camps, adult education, vocational training, BAL clubs and community services.
